Day 1B of the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) $10,000 Main Event officially kicked off on July 3, bringing another wave of hopefuls to the tables at Horseshoe Las Vegas. As the most anticipated tournament in the poker world, the Main Event continues to attract a diverse mix of professional heavyweights, online qualifiers, and ambitious amateurs chasing the dream of poker immortality.
Day 1B Draws Bigger Numbers and Bigger Names
While Day 1A set the tone with a modest turnout and a ceremonial start by poker legend Billy Baxter, Day 1B saw a significant surge in participation. More than 1,200 players took their seats, filling the massive tournament area with energy and anticipation.
Notable names spotted among the crowd included defending champion Daniel Weinman, high-stakes regular Alex Foxen, and crowd-favorite Maria Ho. The field also featured a healthy number of international players, adding to the global appeal of the WSOP.
Action Gets Heated as Players Set the Pace
With blinds starting at 100/200 and each player receiving a deep 60,000-chip stack, Day 1B allowed for strategic maneuvering and creative play. Despite the early stages of the tournament, the atmosphere was anything but slow. Big pots were brewing from the start, and a few daring bluffs and calculated hero calls had the rail buzzing.
Several players emerged as early chip leaders by the end of the day, including WSOP veteran David “ODB” Baker, who built a stack well over 250,000 before the final hand of the night.
Early Eliminations and Tough Beats
Not every player survived the intense first day. Bust-outs began within the first few levels, with some big names making an early exit. Online sensation Landon Tice fell victim to a rivered flush, while bracelet winner Anthony Zinno lost a cooler with pocket kings against a flopped set of sevens.
Despite these exits, many seasoned pros are expected to re-enter on Day 1C or Day 1D, taking full advantage of the tournament’s flexible format.
Eyes Now on Day 1C and the Final Count
With two more starting flights remaining, all eyes are now on how large the 2025 WSOP Main Event player pool will grow. Early projections suggest a field size that could rival the record-setting 2023 turnout, with organizers optimistic about hitting new milestones.
Day 1C is scheduled for July 4, and with it expected to attract the largest field yet, anticipation continues to build as the Main Event moves one step closer to crowning the next world champion.
