Drake Steps Away from Sports Betting After $1M Super Bowl Loss

After a costly $1 million wager on the Super Bowl, Drake has announced he’s stepping away from sports betting. Known for placing high-stakes wagers over the past few years, the 39-year-old rapper shared on Instagram last week that he’s “off sports betting … sticking to what I know.”

Interestingly, what Drake “knows” seems to be other forms of online gambling. His post included a video of him playing roulette on his phone with friends, suggesting he’s not abandoning gaming altogether.

The “Drake Curse” Strikes Again

Drake’s decision appears tied to a string of sports betting misfortunes. Fans have dubbed it the “Drake Curse,” a running joke that any team he bets on is doomed to lose. His Super Bowl bet on the New England Patriots seemed to be the breaking point.

Earlier this year, Drake also lost a major wager on the Toronto Maple Leafs to beat the Florida Panthers in the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs. The Panthers eventually won in seven games, claiming their second consecutive Stanley Cup. Last year, his bet on the Kansas City Chiefs to win the Super Bowl also failed, contributing to a month where he reportedly lost $8.2 million.

A Record with Wins and Losses

Drake’s sports betting history isn’t all losses. In 2024, he won $1.15 million betting on the Chiefs, and in 2022, he earned $559,000 wagering on the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl. Still, the high-profile defeats seem to have prompted him to step back from sports wagering.

Whether Drake will stick to his promise remains uncertain, especially as he continues to engage with online gaming platforms.

Legal Headline

In other news, the Stake online gaming ambassador was recently named in a Virginia class-action lawsuit alleging a racketeering conspiracy to “artificially inflate streaming counts for Drake’s catalog,” adding another layer of controversy to the rapper’s current activities.
